Dustin Pedroia’s Walk-Off Single In The 11th Lifts The Red Sox Over The Phillies (VIDEO)
After starting the season 21-21, the Red Sox have gone 14-7 in the last three-plus weeks to put themselves firmly in the number two spot in the AL East.
Unfortunately they’re still four games behind the first-place Yankees after dropping two out of three in New York last week, but they’ve managed to bounce back and win three out of four since then.
Their most recent victory took 11 innings against the Phillies on Monday night. As usual, Rick Porcello dug them in a 4-0 hole in the first inning. But the Sox’ offense responded and they were able to tie things up in the fourth before Philadelphia retook the lead in the fifth on an RBI single by Howie Kendrick.
It would remain a 5-4 game until the bottom of the eighth, when Hanley Ramirez took matters into his own hands:

The 5-5 tie lasted until the bottom of the 11th. Pablo Sandoval started off the inning with a single and was pinch-ran for by Deven Marrero. After Sandy Leon moved Marrero to second on a sacrifice bunt, Phillies’ pitcher Casey Fien intentionally walked Mookie Betts to make it first and second with one out and Dustin Pedroia coming to the plate.
As he often has during his 10-year Red Sox career, Pedey came through in the clutch, providing us with possibly the best moment of the 2017 season thus far:
The Sox will look to make it four out of five as they take on the Phillies at Fenway again on Tuesday night. First pitch at 7:10.
