Houston ends trade talks with Boston (for now)

ESPN’s Marc Stein reported early this afternoon that Houston has decided to end all trade talks in regards to Omer Asik.

The common consensus seems to be that the Celtics were reluctant to give up the 2014 first-round draft pick that the Rockets wanted as part of the deal.  They would, however, being willing to part with the 2015 pick that they acquired from the Clippers, which will probably be a late pick considering that the Clippers are expected to be a good team next year.

When you think about the talent that’s going to be available in next year’s draft, I can understand the Celtics not wanting to part with the 2014 pick.

Regardless, the actual NBA trade deadline is still two months away.  Today was just a self-imposed deadline set by Houston in hopes that they could find an offer that they liked.  Clearly they haven’t yet, but there is still plenty of time for Danny and Houston GM Daryl Morey to work out a deal.
