Joyner Lucas Destroys Desiigner’s “Panda” Beat Once And For All
Chances are you’ve probably heard the song “Panda” by Future Desiigner at some point in the last couple months. Desiigner is a 19 year-old Brooklyn rapper who purchased the beat for the song from a 22 year-old producer in the UK named Menace and turned it into a #1 hit. He recently signed to G.O.O.D. Music and blew up after being featured on Kanye West’s “The Life Of Pablo” album.
At least that’s what I’ve been told. Personally, I’m still holding on to the theory that Desiigner is actually Future disguising himself with a different moniker. They sound exactly the same. There isn’t one person who heard “Panda” for the first time and didn’t immediately think it was Future. If this Desiigner character is in fact real, I’m not hating. If you can rise to fame by completely emulating someone else’s style then more power to you.
As is the case with every hit rap song that has a hot beat, rappers have been coming out of the woodwork to spit their own bars over the production. They include Meek Mill, Uncle Murda, Papoose, Cory Gunz, Cassidy, Joell Ortiz, and Lil Kim. There have been some good versions and some versions that made you wonder whether the artist was just hopping on a big song in hopes of climbing back to relevancy. It’s been reminiscent of 2008 when Lil Wayne’s “A Milli” was beat into the ground by every rapper in the industry.
Well, as of three days ago there will be no more Panda remixes. Or at least no more that are worth listening to. No one is going to top Massachusetts’ own Joyner Lucas, who put an absolutely clinic on how to kill a trap beat with lyricism. He starts by proclaiming that he’s on a mission to end the recent trend of remixing this song and it’s safe to say he accomplished his goal:
I’m tired of this fucking panda song
I don’t stand alone
I just wanna wrap my fucking hands across
Stab the head, and break the fucking panda’s jaw
I dare you to find another rapper who can flow like this. Enjoy the grand finale of the Panda remixes, courtesy of Worcester’s finest:
