Patriots Coverage Has Become Nauseating
A team with a 9-1 record doesn’t typically get a great deal of negative press when it comes to their on-field performance, but there’s nothing typical about the New England Patriots these days.
Pats coverage over the past few years has been nothing short of nauseating. Despite winning three of the last five Super Bowls and getting to the back end of November with only one loss in 2019, there’s been an abundance of drama and premature panic in recent memory. And I’m only talking about the football-related topics. Trading away Logan Mankins, the Brady vs. Jimmy G debate, Gronk retiring, Josh Gordon, the Antonio Brow saga. The list goes on. But in a span that has seen endless instability, one thing has remained constant. The Patriots keep winning. So why are we so focused on the negatives?
Of course Brady is declining. He’s 42 years old. But as of right now a declining Brady is still good enough for the best record in the NFL. The 2000 Ravens won with Trent Dilfer as their quarterback. The 2002 Buccaneers won with Brad Johnson. The 2015 Broncos won with Peyton Manning, and not the good Peyton Manning. I mean the Peyton Manning who threw 9 touchdown passes and 17 interceptions, had the 29th best QBR in the NFL, and lost his job to Brock Osweiler before getting it back prior to the postseason. If THAT guy can win a Super Bowl, then the Patriots are fully capable of doing the same with the way their offense is currently constituted.
Is Tom Brady frustrated? Yes. Is he as unhappy and dissatisfied as people are making him out to be? Probably not. The over-analyzing of every word he says needs to stop. The guy said that it’s up to N’Keal Harry to work hard and earn the trust of his teammates, and somehow that got twisted into Brady not being big on N’Keal Harry. HE HAD NEVER PLAYED WITH HIM BEFORE. What was he supposed to say? That Harry is going to come in and be a big asset for us right away? Give the guy more pressure and expectations than he’s already dealing with? No. You ease him into the role and hope that his talent eventually prevails. Last Sunday’s win over the Eagles was basically a preseason game for the rookie wide-out who still has plenty of time to get acclimated before January. The Mohammed Sanu injury will hurt, but Harry has more than enough ability to fill his shoes.
Isaiah Wynn has also been activated and will play this Sunday against the Cowboys at Gillette. The Patriots are 9-1, they have one of the greatest defenses of all-time, and their issues at receiver and offensive line are beginning to be repaired. Tell me again why we should be worried.
