Red Sox Finish Dominant Sweep Of A’s, Maverick Schutte Steals The Show
After Wednesday night’s 13-3 thrashing, the Red Sox finished off a sweep of the Oakland Athletics that included them scoring 40 runs in three nights. For the first time in team history they’ve put up 13 or more runs in three straight games.
Every single hitter in the lineup is hot. Jackie Bradley Jr. is on an absolute tear. He hit another homer Wednesday to extend his league leading hit streak to 17 games. He came into this season with a career .212 batting average and now he’s putting up Mike Trout numbers:
Jackie Bradley Jr. – .310 BA, .906 OPS, 15 XBH, 35 hits, 16 runs, 22 RBI
Mike Trout – .314 BA, .961 OPS, 14 XBH, 37 hits, 16 runs, 23 RBI— Jared Carrabis (@Jared_Carrabis) May 11, 2016
Rick Porcello, who was 9-15 last year, is off to a 6-1 start. The Sox are 12-4 in their last 16 games after starting the season 9-9.
Despite all of this, the star of the show Wednesday night was Maverick Schutte.
Maverick is a six year-old kid with a heart condition who loves David Ortiz. After he sent a video out to his idol, Papi and Kevin Millar sent him a video back showing their support. Ortiz promised Maverick a home run and came through with a game winner against the Yankees:

On Wednesday night, he got his wish of attending a game and meeting his favorite Red Sox legend:

Maverick had the best seat in the house, right next the Red Sox dugout. The camera was on him all night and he was having a hell of a time.
Towards the end of the game, Big Papi gave him his bat and Maverick thanked him with a fist bump:

In what was a great night at Fenway on all counts, this kid was the highlight.
