The Patriots’ playoff hopes go out the window after one of the worst plays in NFL history
Move over buttfumble, move over Colts fake punt with no offensive linemen. There’s a new worst play in NFL history, and this time the Patriots were on the wrong end of it.
Clinging on to their playoff lives, the 2022 Pats reached a new low on Sunday afternoon. A horrible first half, followed by a good second half, followed by a bullshit call that tied the game, set the Patriots up with a chance to either heave a Hail Mary or settle for overtime on the last play of regulation.
Instead, they acted like they were losing and went in to full desperation mode. Here’s the result:
There’s a ton of blame to go around for this one. It’s hard to single out one person when you’ve reached this level of ineptitude. Obviously Jakobi Meyers is the easy choice, but why did Rhamondre Stevenson lateral to him in the first place? Why didn’t Mac Jones or Bill Belichick tell their team to just go down if you don’t think you can reach the end zone?
Lots of questions that need answers, but the bottom line is that this team is cooked. This was the nail in the coffin. Technically they’re not mathematically eliminated yet but who the hell wants to watch these guys in January anyway? We saw what happened last year in Buffalo and this Pats squad is even worse. It’s time to start looking ahead to the offseason and considering some major personnel changes both on the field and on the sidelines. We’ve reached the post-Brady dark ages and we can’t go on like this any longer.
