WATCH: Highlights from the first win of the Mac Jones Era
The Patriots recorded their first win of the Mac Jones Era on Sunday when they handled the lackluster Jets 25-6 at the Meadowlands.
The key for New England was their defense forcing Zach Wilson into some crucial mistakes. Wilson finished the day with four picks, adding to Bill Belichick’s legacy of making rookie QB’s look foolish.
Offensively, they did enough to win. Mac Jones admittedly wasn’t great, and if they want to beat good teams they’ll have to be more effective in the red zone (2 TD’s in 7 chances through 2 games) and on third downs (3-for-12 in Sunday’s win). The play-calling has been conservative to say the least, and as a result Mac has the third least yards per completion in the NFL so far in 2021, ahead of only Matt Ryan and Jimmy Garoppolo.
The most impressive aspect of the offense was the running game. James White and Damien Harris combined for 82 yards rushing and two touchdowns on on 21 carries. White also added six receptions for 45 yards, and Harris provided the play of the game with a Marshawn Lynch-like power run. Check out some of the highlights here:
